30th April, 2008 - CHAPLAINCY CENTRE MEMORIAL

Have received a call from student support services, Terry Gray (?) with regards to having a memorial held at the Chaplaincy Center on Campus, as a day event. There will be a meeting on Thursday 7th May that I will be attending to discuss possibilities surrounding this event, which will probably be a separate thing that people can attend. I will keep everyone updated with this and with the actual memorial night we are organizing.

With regards to the date of our memorial, we are looking at the end of the month (May). We will try our best to give everyone enough time to organize a trip up here. Map to be added. - Anna -

Will be added pictures in the gallery but I have been having problems down loading pictures. But again this is all in transition, so watch this space. - Anna -

14th May 2008 - CHAPLAINCY CENTRE MEMORIAL

The date and time has been confirmed for the memorial service due to take place in the Chaplaincy Centre on campus for Ed. It will be on Thursday 22nd May (next week) at 1.15pm

This event is for anyone and everyone wishing to celebrate his life and say goodbye. Ed's family will be attending as well. I will be doing a reading and I have been asked to convey the message that anyone else wishing to make a contribution is very welcome to do so. If you would like to do a reading or make any other kind of contribution to the service, drop me a line and I'll send you the email address of the person organising it.

Once again, this is a completely separate event to the fundraiser poetry evening but it is still open to anyone and everyone wishing to attend.

I hope to see you all there.

24th May, 2008 - CHAPLAINCY CENTRE MEMORIAL THANKS

Wow thank you for those you turned up at the memorial at the chaplaincy centre, it was a touching and warming. I would like to share two emails that not everyone may have had access to, with regards to the positive affect of the memorial and the gathering of Ed's works to be put forward for publication. Firstly an email from Simon Bainbridge Professor of Romantic Studies at Lancaster University and one from Ed's tutor Vic Bennet during his undergrad days, also at Lancaster Universit.

Dear all,

" I'm writing to thank you all for your support of, and contributions to, the memorial gathering  held for Ed Lomax yesterday. I spoke to Ed's parents afterwards and they were very appreciative of the event. I have also just had a call from Sheila Walsh in Student Support who was at the service. By chance she had met Mr and Mrs Lomax this lunchtime and they told her that they felt the event had made an enormous difference to them, helping them to feel proud of Ed and to begin to move forwards.

Best wishes

Simon"

Dear Simon and all

" For my part and on behalf of the others from Wild Women Press who could not make the service, thanks to all for making it happen and thank you too Simon for letting us know this from Ed's parents. I know from experience that this kind of thing can help in seeing the person we have lost through the loving eyes of the other people in our loved one's life...

Ed's parents came and spoke with me following the service with regards to the proposed WWP publication of a collection of Ed's poetry and the establishing of a Poetry Prize in his memory - they felt very strongly that they would like this to happen, so I will be getting on with this. To this end, we invite support to create this memorial to Ed and his life and talent.

If I might ask for any assistance people feel able to offer...George and Simon, Anna and Jenny - if I could have from you the following towards it, that would be really helpful, as you said things that would be fitting and moving, if you are happy to share these:

your memorial speeches
copies of Ed' portfolios and MA submissions to help us select from Eds work - we have some on file but not all and not his most recent work

We are raising funds for the publication through advance sales and raising funds for the prize through donations and sales. If you wish to make a donation to the Prize Fund or order a book, please email me for further details:

vik@wildwomenpress.com

The prize will be based on submission of poetry and an application and will support a previously unpublished poet in the development of their work, in keeping with Ed's own passionate support of the talents of others.

Any help in letting people know about this would be really good - passing the word around the department, around Ed's friends and social circle - just get in touch if you can help...on this or the above email. I can then give further details.

Anna, I wish you much luch for 31st May - perhaps we can talk before this by email - I don't suppose I will be able to make an evening event with the babe still young but I do hope it is joyful and tender:-) as I know it will be...Ollie tells me you have a copy of the WWP DVD of Ed performing and pictures if you want to screen it during the gathering, then that would be ok with us...let us know if we can help in any way...and what is happening.

With many thanks and much love to all
Vik Bennett "

GREGSON CENTRE UPDATE

Will be getting a phone call from Rodger Moorhouse tommorrow to relay exactly what we need to determine the cost of hire. The next week will be all about gathering what people will be doing so we can run up a program. As of yet no idea when everything will start or how long it will go on for but this will come to light through my chat with Rodger. -Anna-
